Understanding the Challenge
Since October 7, 2023, the Israel-Hamas conflict has triggered a significant rise in antisemitism on North American campuses. Jewish students and faculty have faced heightened threats and violence, including incidents of arson, assault, and harassment. Notable events include the burning of a Jewish student’s dorm room door at Drexel University, death threats at Cornell University, and verbal and physical assaults on students at various campuses, including Concordia University, MIT, Columbia and Harvard.
Jewish organizations and leaders have also voiced their alarm, with widespread calls for stronger action to protect Jewish students and to hold institutions accountable for inadequate responses to antisemitism.
